For Ceos

For CEOs

“In this program we start with the foundations of executive coaching, but we alter the focus and add a great deal of additional content and skill-building.”

Over the years many clients have asked for help to prepare them for their first CEO role – or to support them in becoming more effective in a CEO role they already held.

The skills you need to be an effective CEO are strikingly different from those that enabled your success up to that point. And many of the challenges of being a CEO come as a surprise to people who thought they knew what would be in store.

So we decided to pull together the learnings from all of our CEO engagements into a single program called The CEO Journey. In this program we build on a foundation of executive coaching, but with a great deal of additional content and skill-building.

This twelve-month program will prepare you to lead a public, private or family-owned enterprise effectively, and to deal with the most challenging situations that CEOs typically face. The emphasis is on practical applications and immediately usable learning, not theory.

Key Topics include:

  • Managing your Time Strategically
  • Communicating with Impact
  • Honing your Personal Leadership Style to be both Authentic and Effective
  • Building the Right Team; Who is on the Bus; When to Make Changes
  • Setting the Course: Effective Approaches to Strategy
  • Managing Stakeholder Relationships
  • Creating a Partnership with your Board
  • Reshaping Organizational Culture
  • Essential Reading List for CEOs

Areas covered in the CEO Journey program include:

Building an Outstanding Top Team

Building an Outstanding Top Team

New CEOs face some particularly tricky questions when it comes to their top team: Should they work with the team they have inherited, despite potential weaknesses – to show goodwill and create a more collegial environment? Or should they move quickly to replace those that don’t seem likely to make it? How long should executives be given to prove themselves? How can executives brought in from outside be rapidly and effectively integrated? And how can the old team be brought round to new ways of working? The CEO Journey program covers these questions, based on research and the cumulative experience of many other CEOs.

Reshaping Your Organization’s Culture

Reshaping Your Organization’s Culture

You already know how much a company’s culture matters: How it affects performance, your ability to attract and retain the very best people, how it supports or undermines co-operation and accountability. But few CEOs understand how to change their organization’s culture. In the CEO Journey, you will learn a systematic and reliable way to achieve positive culture change.

Setting Strategy Effectively

Setting Strategy Effectively

Having spent 12 years as a partner with Monitor Group, the strategy consulting firm founded by Professor Michael Porter, Rob has ample experience of what works and what doesn’t when it comes to doing strategy work that is rigorous, quick, and leads to decisive action. He uses a process called Strategic Choice Structuring that yields clarity, conviction and commitment in much less time than any other strategy process he’s seen. It’s easy to learn and to use.

Building a Powerful Partnership with your Board

Building a Powerful Partnership with your Board

Sometimes a CEO’s Board can be more of a hindrance than a help. If you reveal too little, the Board resents it and may lose confidence in your leadership. But if you provide too much detail, then Board members can’t resist getting involved in issues they really shouldn’t touch. In the CEO Journey we learn how to establish a constructive and results-oriented partnership with your Board that ensures valuable input where it’s most needed while maintaining the appropriate boundaries.

Managing Your Priorities, at Work and Outside

Managing Your Priorities, at Work and Outside

The demands on a CEO’s time can be extraordinary – it’s truly a 24/7 job. And it’s also true that where you spend your time will have a huge impact on what gets done. So it’s essential that you have an explicit plan that addresses both where you will spend your time within the business, and that also allows you to maintain your health, energy, clarity of mind, and of course time for your family and yourself. We can help you to develop this plan and ensure that you stick to it.

Essential Reading List

Many of our clients are caught in a dilemma: they know they need to keep their thinking fresh and stay abreast of major new ideas in the business world, but they have very limited time to read. We help our clients by carefully selecting a few choice book chapters and articles that are most relevant to your situation. For those who would rather listen than read, we can also assemble a relevant portfolio of podcasts, online lectures, TED talks, and so on.

Media & Communications Skills

As the CEO role is so external facing, the demands on a CEO in terms of communications go far beyond what you will have faced up to that point. Most CEOs undertake some form of communications and media training. We have partnered with Asia’s leading communications coach to develop a training program that can be customised to your situation and skill level.
